      Database Administrator Interview

      16 Apr 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Carrollton, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Ameriflex (Carrollton, TX)

      Interview

The interview process was very typical with three rounds of phone interviews initially. I was given a test covering my analytical abilities as well. I should have paid closer attention to the red flags during the interview process. I was told the previous employee didn't really understand how to use the systems and gave really long timelines for projects. Well low and behold that is due to the fact that apparently they are more concerned about "cultural fit" then hiring for skill. The final interview was pretty terrible with myself in a room with three male supervisors basically just rapid firing questions at me for an hour. The most senior of which gave me not even one inkling of positive body language the entire time (couldn't even pretend to crack a smile). He had obviously made up his mind about me from the moment I walked in the room. The hr rep told me while I had all the technical knowledge I wasn't a "cultural fit" (a nice legal way of saying I was discriminated against). Seeing as how I am a POC and a female in what is obviously a white male dominated office I am not at all suprised. I should have known when I looked on the website and saw almost no women in management roles nor any POC in them. These people really need bias and cultural sensitivity training but since it is a good old boys club I doubt that will happen until their bottom line truly starts to suffer. The lack of diverse knowledge within their organization will drive their organization into the ground if it hasn't already. This is 2019. It is truly sad that organizations can legally still claim cultural differences that are not aligned or communicated in any of their org wide goals or objectives. If you continue to hire this way, don't be surprised when you end up with unqualified people in heavily technical computer based roles. I have never been treated so blatantly bias by any potential employer so I truly am thankful they showed me their true colors before I jeopardized my current role. I usually don't post reviews but I felt it was necessary given the circumstances. Good luck to anyone with any form of "difference" who applies here.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Ameriflex in Jan 2024

      Interview

Two initial asks, if recruiter responds to initial online application. First ask will be a Predictive Index Survey. This survey takes a few minutes. Second ask will be a TestGorilla assessment. This assessments, at random times, will take video. Recruiter then reached out and stated they would like to schedule interview, with hiring manager. This required entering all application information, for a second time, to the company online system. At this point, I asked company recruiter, if this position was backfill or new. She informed me backfill, as the previous employee had some health issues and had to leave the position. I did a Linkedin search for Ameriflex DBA. I found one name. I did a web search and tragically, in Plano, TX, found his obituary. I became concerned, as this employee had tragically died ten months earlier. Very clear warning sign, as this position had been open for multiple months, and nobody had been hired. Thoughts of the hiring manager may be in analysis paralysis, or perfect is the enemy of good territory. Video Interview setup with hiring manager, developer, and scrum master. Typical what is your favorite color questions, and etc… Understandably, trying to find folks who work well in a team. I think hiring manager took a slight bad cop role. The other two team members more of the good cop role. Be prepared to use Google meet. I think these folks assume everyone else uses it. Be prepared for SQL questions on the fly, and display them real time on active meeting.
