      Interview

I applied and was sent an email with a time for an hour long interview. At no point was I asked about my availability, they chose a day/time for me (for the very next morning). I found this a bit weird but was interested in the role so I attended the interview. The person that I spoke with was very nice and I really enjoyed the conversation but the next step was a competency exercise that I had to complete on my own time. I’m not a big fan of “assignments” or “projects” during the interview process in general but was especially bothered by this particular request because this role was a temporary one, scheduled to last only 3 months. When asked about the duration, I was basically told that the organization had an overwhelming need to quickly fill roles and after those three months (and essentially after this person had done all the work), the company’s need for the role would be reevaluated. I believe the work that Americares does is amazing and so important for those around the world, but it is my opinion that the hiring process is a bit flawed.

Thank you so much for your time in our interview process and for this feedback. Candidate experience and equity in our recruiting practices are priorities for our organization. Our job postings include details about the interview process (how many interviews/ competency assessments are in the process, how long each step lasts, and more details) so that candidates can make an informed decision before applying to a role with us. In addition to posting salary band and benefits information, duration of the role, and other details, this section of our job postings that includes the steps a candidate can anticipate are part of our transparent communication to job seekers. We greatly appreciate our candidates' time completing competency assessments as they are part of our core work to mitigate bias in the interview process and evaluate just competencies and skills in a direct way. Our health equity work and our workplace equity commitment are deeply aligned with processes that reflect that. Thank you for sharing about your experience and for your time in our process.
