I applied online. I interviewed at American Red Cross (Charlotte, NC) in Feb 2018
Interview
Applied and quickly got a phone interview for screening. The interview went very well, and she said she would definitely suggest me to the hire manager for a second round interview. After two weeks and not hearing anything, I reached out to the hiring manager at the chapter I was applying to. After another week and no response, I sent him another email. He stated that HR would be in touch when they had made final decisions. I received an email later that day saying I was not a candidate going forward. I reached out to the woman I phone interviewed with to see if there were any specific reasons why- I was surprised since she said she was going to recommend me. After not hearing back from her after a week, I sent another email. She said it was company policy that she couldn't disclose details as to why my application was denied, but said that she knows I was in contact with the hiring manager of the chapter directly, and that that goes outside of the recruitment policy. Neither of them ever said that I should not have emailed him, and in every other position I've had (including one as a hiring manager) contacting the person you will be interviewing with has always shown initiative and interest in the position. I also contacted the same chapter about a year ago trying to sign up to be a volunteer, went to orientation and there was nobody there, tried to reschedule an orientation and never heard back. All in all, an incredibly poor run chapter, and although I would still love to be a part of this organization again, it will definitely not be in Charlotte.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How did you find out about this position? When was a time you managed volunteers?
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at American Red Cross (Farmington, CT) in Dec 2024
Interview
Phone interview with HR. Then 2 panel interviews over zoom with 5 people on each call. The phone interview and the first round were typical and fairly easy. The last round was miserable. They asked questions for almost the full hour. Then I was told someone would let me know by the end of the week and no one reached out. I emailed and left a voicemail, did not get an answer. Eventually a month and a half later, I received an email that said my application had been rejected. Really frustrating process.
The interview process has multiple rounds, anywhere from 3-5 on average but can be more. It is a very long process but friendly interviewers. The process for me took several months
I applied online. I interviewed at American Red Cross (Washington, DC) in Nov 2021
Interview
Many levels of interview. First a 15 to 30 minute interview with someone from HR at their main DC office. Then a panel interview by volunteers and some staff from the local office. Then another panel interview from the local office by administration. Then a second administration interview.
