I applied online. I interviewed at American Income Life (Aurora, CO) in May 2021
Interview
I applied for a job at AIL in Aurora, Colorado. I was not told until my 6th time at their office that the position was for a COMMISSION ONLY, CONTRACT sales position. In fact, during my first encounter with an AIL executive, I was told I was NOT applying for a sales position. To work for AIL in Aurora, CO, you must spend $99 to purchase an online study program to pass the Colorado State licensing exam to sell insurance. You then pay for the test, which is $41, and then pay for your license application. You have to provide your own laptop and, even though you think you are applying for a remote job, you are required to be at the office MWF from 9 - 12. You are not paid for any time spent during orientation or training. The supervisor tried to make it MANDATORY (his word) to come up and study at the office two hours a day (before I was actually hired). There are two weeks of training (after all the time spent studying to pass the state exam), most of which is unpaid. If you happen to sell something your last 3 days of training, you only get paid for what you sell. Even while you are filling out the online information to get hired (W-2, I-9, etc.) you are told to watch a training video - you are not paid for those 3 hours.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They asked questions to find out how motivated I was by money.
Pushy attitude from the interviewers. They were essentially trying to get me to sign on the a pyramid scheme where they took a percentage of the sales I generated. They also wanted to to pay up front for the training course which was a red flag for me.
You first attend a zoom meeting/ presentation regarding the overview of the job and the benefits of the position. If you take the survey, they will review your resume and, if you are a good fit, they will contact you further to set up an interview. From there, you undergo the interview, which gives you more information on the position and then, if you have performed well, an offer is made.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What was my experience and if I was willing to get a license/certification.
It was fairly straight forward. There were 3 interviews and a coupled zoom calls. Still deciding if I should still with them. They seem really nice. There is no base salary, all commison and all remote as well
