      Virtual Client Specialist Interview

      7 Aug 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Orland Park, IL
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at American Income Life (Orland Park, IL) in Aug 2020

      Interview

I had an informational interview with “Gifted Benefits Providers” yesterday. The interviewee was 10 minutes late and then ended the interview after 3 minutes because of “technical difficulties”. I should have known right way to stay away. Then later that day I got a Facebook message saying that I “‘made an impression on Mr. Hughes” and he’d like to me to go to a final interview the next day. Very strange timeline. Most companies like to hire people who are busy and already employed and understand that they have previous commitments and can’t agree to something with less than 24 hrs notice. I agree to the latest interview available the next day. I’m on the zoom interview and in less than 5 minutes the interviewer asks me if I have kids. I tell her that it’s not an appropriate question for a job interview and that it’s highly unethical to ask me something like that. I nervously laugh it off. She rolls her eyes in a very condescending tone tells me she’s making a note. As a woman I expect more from her. For the life of me I can’t understand how a female professional would think this is an appropriate question. So she’s going on with the “interview” and is showing a PowerPoint presentation via screen share. Except she never puts it in presentation mode so it’s really difficult to read. Made her come off as even more incompetent. Then I ask her a question and she reprimands me for asking questions and says I can ask at the end. I’ve worked very larger corporate companies and have never been treated as such. I got the impression she’s not an HR professional and doesn’t know the first thing about interviewing. I’m interviewing the company just as much as they’re interviewing me. I got the impression that they’re not looking for high level employees who’ve held actual jobs before. It’s all about the brain washing. I did some research and ultimately it’s a pyramid scheme. At no point did she mention that it’s a 1099 position. There are also mandatory meetings that you’re required to go to which is SUPER illegal. Don’t be like me. Stay far away. Don’t waste your precious time. This place is clearly highly unethical.
