      Operations Manager Interview

      6 Aug 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Aurora, CO
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at American Income Life (Aurora, CO) in Jun 2020

      Interview

It was a group interview with about thirty people in the lobby or in line to check in for their interview. The person that asked me to apply was not there as they said they would and the person that interviewed me had no knowledge of my resume. It seemed as though they did this format on a regular basis which may be an indicator of their level of turnover for employees. They also require you to provide your own equipment and pay for the required license certification training and exam.

      Operations Manager Interview

      9 Jul 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Aurora, CO
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at American Income Life (Aurora, CO) in Jul 2020

      Interview

I asked for a job description via email prior to the interview, so I could prepare. I never received one...that should've been a red flag. The job was posted vaguely on LinkedIn as an "Operations Manager" role. I showed up 15-minutes early for my scheduled interview time only to find a line of people coming out of the office. There were 20-25 candidates in the office, with about 5-8 staff members passing through the room at the same time. While most candidate wore masks, no AIL employees wore masks. It felt like an LA casting call... I didn't have my name called until 20-minutes past my scheduled interview time. When I sat down with the AIL employee, she informed me that she was promoted twice in one year -- red flag number two. I'm a Director of Marketing and I know that when people are "promoted" that quickly, something doesn't really add up. As she was explaining the interview process, which sounded like nothing I've ever done before...or would ever want to do...) I asked her to explain the role. Come to find out "Operations Manager" is really "Insurance Agent". Those are NOT the same thing. I spent maybe 5 minutes in the interview and told the AIL employee that this was not the role I applied for and that I was not interested in writing policies. She tried to explain that I'd quickly be promoted and blah blah blah... Unless you're looking to get into insurance sales, DO NOT fall for the vague bait-and-switch tactics. It's not worth your time. I will never apply to this company again. No wonder they need such a high volume of applicants...if you can get qualified people with transparent job posts and interview processes, you need to cast a wide net.

When I returned for the company overview/orientation I had not decided, untill I spoke with one of the managers and asked him what was the highest and lowest paid employee in the position they wanted to put me in. I was not happy with the highest.
