I submitted my resume on line through the American express company website. I was contacted 2 weeks later by the director. The next step consisted of a 45 minute phone interview. The director explained that the second round would consist of a selection 4 candidates for face to face interviews with his director peer. The third round would consist of only 2 candidates and would be with a vice president or senior director.
At the end of the phone interview, the director told me he was putting me through to the second round of interviewing. I was contacted by the director peer one week later. It took about two weeks of email traffic with the director peer to coordinate a face to face interview. This was frustrating due to unable to set up an interview for a couple of weeks. In addition the director peer cancelled and interview via email at 8PM the day before. If I had not checked my email the following morning I would have taken a 1 1/2-2 hour ride into the city for nothing. After 2 weeks I was able to set up a face to face interview. The interview itself took 30 -45 minutes. Both the peer director and I agreed after the interview that due to the distance I had traveled the interview could have been conducted over the phone.
After a few weeks, since I did not hear back from the director and I knew they wanted to fill the position soon I contacted the initial director. He promptly responded and stated that I did not get the offer due to the fact that they went with someone who had more financial background.
