      "Account Executive" Interview

      30 Jan 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Alpha Management

      Interview

So, I sent in a resume and cover letter to Alpha Management. They responded to me within 24 hours. They even sent me a second email, when I had yet to reply to the first one (mind you, I had been sleeping. I had not seen the first email yet). Already, I thought this was strange. I talked to the HR coordinator, and they scheduled my interview. I arrived to the office, and saw the CEO of the company smoking outside. I waited till he was finished to walk in. The lobby was quite small and the TV was blaring. I found that to be a little unprofessional. It came off almost like a doctor's office, except with blue walls. I filled out my application and waited for the CEO to come and interview me. I went into his office. He spoke extremely fast, and did not really give you a chance to process everything he was saying. He was talking a lot and then said "tell me about yourself." I did, and then he told me about the company. Mind you, he said the company had been around for over 30 years and had locations in over 40 countries. I found this to be odd because when I researched the company, he had founded it when he was 26 (he was at least in his 30s) and when you google Alpha Management, you only find the Ft. Lauderdale location. He then asked me why I thought I was fit for the position. When I finished, he told me how he had to interview 15 people that day, and would call the Top 8 for a second interview the next day. He hadn't mentioned salary, so I asked him about it. He mentioned that it was $500 a week, plus commission. What I did not find out until later is that this was a door to door sales job. Account Executive is a fancy name for Sales Rep. The second interview was supposed to be me doing voluntary door to door sales, so that a supervisor can observe me. I would not get paid for my work. Another thing: as I was leaving his office, the CEO turns to me and says "How tall are you?" I reply with my height. He says "Wow. I am 6'5." Why was this unsettling? I am a young woman, and that was an inappropriate question to ask. All in all, the interview lasted only 5 minutes. I got into his office at 10:01 and was in my car by 10:08. This is already a red flag. I got the second interview, but I emailed them to let them know I will not be going. I guess they did not receive it, because they emailed me the next morning saying that I did not show up and that a supervisor had made time in his schedule to see me. I didn't sweat over it. This company is not legit. They have all these positions available all over CareerBuilder and Indeed.com, and they do not have ANY of their positions in their company. They just use it to lure you in, and try and trick you into doing their door to door work. Please do research!
