      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at AllPoints Fibre (Reading) in Aug 2025

      Interview

I completed an hour of online tests before the interview. The interview itself lasted around 30 minutes and was described as “speed dating,” which did not feel like a proportionate use of time given the preparation required. The interviewer also placed notable emphasis on the team being an “all-woman team” in a “man’s world.” This was surprising because, during my previous employment there, my manager was female and the team was already predominantly female. The focus on gender left me questioning whether there may be a recruitment bias, whereas my own view has always been that background is irrelevant and the priority should be hiring the best people. What concerned me most was that my prior tenure and results were not acknowledged or explored. I had previously launched two B2B units and increased the sales run rate by 300 percent in under 12 months. None of this was referenced during the process. Receiving only a generic rejection email underlined how impersonal the process felt. It also reinforced something I had suspected since my redundancy: the assurances from several Board members at the time that I was “a great fit” and someone they would “happily work with again” were simply empty platitudes rather than genuine commitments.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The questions were incredibly generic, to the point where they made me question the seniority of the role. It felt more like a box-ticking exercise than a serious interview, with some questions barely above “what’s your favourite colour.” The one that stood out was: “Marketing is seen as a support function by lots of the business, how do you say no to people?” For a leadership position, that line of questioning felt telling and not at all aligned with the level of responsibility the role was meant to carry.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and we’re sorry to hear that the interview process did not meet your expectations. Our intention with interviews is always to provide candidates with the opportunity to showcase their skills and experience, while also giving them a fair and clear sense of the role and our culture. We take feedback to this detail seriously and will reflect on how we can improve both the structure of our interviews and the way we communicate to unsuccessful candidates throughout the process. We know that investing time in an application and preparation is a big commitment, and we want to make sure that every candidate feels it was worthwhile, regardless of the outcome. We wish you the very best in your future career and thank you again for your feedback.
