Very low-intimidation, low-pressure initial interview to really get to know the applicant and get an idea of their 'higher level skills'. Follow up technical assessment allowed for the choice between typical tech algorithm challenges OR to build them a full stack project/app. I went with the 2nd because not only is it more practical to the job, but practical to the occupation. There were secondary and tertiary interviews to really drill down on the technical assessment you completed and your relevant work experience and development practices. The only downside I experienced from the process is that it did take a little long to get through everything and to the offer/acceptance stage. In my case it was about 6 weeks from the first interview to the offer.
