Air Line Pilots Association, International interview questions

Interviewed for a communications role supporting United Airlines pilots in Rosemont outside of O"Hare Airport. Went through numerous rounds - which went very well - with the folks - and was basically down to a "what's an offer look like to you and when can you start?" Then heard nothing and then received a phone call from their HR person who allowed some coworker's friend to apply after the process and told me that they hired that person because he was an internal referral. Yet, went and looked up this person a few weeks later on LinkedIn and they had zero matching qualifications, whatsoever.
