I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Advanced Simulation Technology (Herndon, VA) in Apr 2025
Interview
I wasn't prepared for all the follow-up questions asked, but nothing crazy. A recruiter reached out within a few days of applying, and communication was reliable. Resume-walkthrough style interview followed by a Leetcode-esque problem in Java.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Walk me through your resume. Are these all class projects or personal projects? What did you learn from them?
The interview process began with a phone interview, which served as the initial screening stage. During this call, we discussed my background, skills, and experiences relevant to the position. It was an opportunity for both the interviewer and me to assess the potential fit for the role.
After the phone interview, I was invited to spend a full day at the company's office for a more comprehensive evaluation. This on-site interview was multifaceted and designed to assess various aspects of my abilities and compatibility with the company's culture.
The first part of the on-site interview was dedicated to technical questions. In this session, I was asked to solve problems and answer questions related to the specific technical skills required for the job. This segment was challenging and required me to demonstrate my expertise and problem-solving abilities in real-time.
Following the technical assessment, the interview process shifted focus to logic questions. These questions were designed to evaluate my critical thinking and analytical skills. They were less about my specific job-related knowledge and more about how I approach and solve complex, abstract problems.
The final part of the on-site visit was a personality interview combined with a lunch. This was a more informal and relaxed setting, intended to assess my soft skills, such as communication, teamwork, and cultural fit within the company. It was an opportunity for both parties to interact in a less structured environment, providing valuable insights into how well I might integrate with the team and the overall work environment.
Throughout the day, I had the chance to meet various team members, which gave me a better understanding of the company's dynamics and the types of projects I would potentially be working on. The entire process was thorough and gave both the company and me a comprehensive view of whether the role was a suitable match.
I applied through university. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Advanced Simulation Technology in Sept 2016
Interview
I had a skype interview. The interviewer called me and we spoke for about 30 minutes. He mostly asked me about myself and didn't really ask any hard programming or technical questions. He seemed interested in me, but said that they have to be careful about hiring since they're such a small company; they want to make sure they get the right people. He asked about my programming experience and basically just asked about what I had on my resume.

Question 1
Like I said, no real technical questions. He asked me what my favorite data structure was (in C++) and asked what I like about different languages.
