      Project Manager Interview

      13 Sept 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Acutedge in Jul 2017

      Interview

The overall process took two months! There was very little communication throughout and I had to continually follow up with the hiring manager and the HR representative. Interestingly, the first video interview was with the CEO who was very interesting and engaging. He asked questions about my project management experience and then ultimately had a clear understanding of any gaps in my experience vs what they were looking for. I would have expected, however, to have started interviewing with the management before talking to the CEO so that was strange. The 2nd interview was with a manager. It was also a video interview but he shut his camera off which I found very odd. He had many of the same questions so it was clear he had not talked with the CEO about me prior to the call. As interviews go both ways, I was able to determine that this person had much less experience than I had which worried me immediately. After two weeks with no follow up (except a request to complete an online survey/personality test and to provide writing samples), I followed up and found out that everyone was on vacation. Seems like something they should have made me aware of given my time investment to that point. A few weeks later, I received an email from HR that they were going with another candidate. Then, shortly thereafter, received another email from the manager stating they were still interested. Seemed like there was no internal communication going on. At that point, I provided a list of references and offered to setup another phone call with them since it had been over a month since we last spoke. They followed up with all my references some of which had negative feedback about the manager such as his obvious lack of experience. Throughout that process, I had difficulty getting responses from the manager. When he offered to setup calls he would give me one hour windows and he never answered any of my calls when I tried to reach out directly. When we finally connected a week or so later, I was expecting to get an offer. Instead, he mentioned that my references all gave "glowing" reviews and then started asking me basic questions about my background and motivation that were answered in the initial interview. He stated they'd be making their decision the following week. At that point, I was thoroughly aggravated with them for wasting my references' time by contacting them before they had made a decision to move forward. I was shocked when I received a very brief email from the manager stating they were not moving forward - no explanation as to why. After all the time spent with them, I would have expected more feedback as to why they came to this decision which was mute anyway since I have no interest in working with a firm that is so disorganized and uncommunicative.
