I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Abbott in Jul 2020
Interview
Given COVID precautions the entire interview process was conducted virtually. That part was fine. I was contacted directly by the hiring manager for a role. It became clear they were in the final stages of the process, but the hiring manager really wanted me in the pool.
All of the interviews went well, some went way over the allotted time in a good way, except one. The HR person didn't show up for our one-on-one interview at the appointed time. There was no call and the other HR person nor hiring manager knew what happened.
After my interview went well with an executive, my interview with the HR person was rescheduled. Not only did they not apologize for the missed interview, they started the call by saying they knew I was applying for this particular role but others would be available later. During the interview, they said I would be a good fit for another function, completely unrelated because of how well I spoke. I was interviewing for marketing of a medical device, a highly clinical role. Then when they asked what I wanted to do in 20 years, I answered this clear gotcha question by saying my long and short term goal of being a general manager, at which point they said I wouldn't be a good fit for a general manager that wasn't a role for me.
I found their behavior unprofessional and biased. I have long held Abbott in high esteem, but this was the height of unprofessionalism.
I didn't get the role because the HR person advocated against me because of my response to the 20-year question, not my skill or anything else related to the role.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Abbott (Emeryville, CA)
Interview
I found the process chaotic and disorganized, with the HR team setting up interviews with people who had just joined the company and couldn't answer questions, and no notice on canceled and changed interviews including on-site. Huge wastes of time for everyone involved.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Abbott (Karāchi) in Nov 2019
Interview
It starts with the regional HR lead, followed by local HR and then eventually the General Manager. Each interview is about 45 mins in length and consists of more personality than technical questions
