I interviewed with the recruiter via zoom. She seemed very interested in my hospitality background, so much so that we never even discussed my payroll experience. The company is growing on the East coast and needed someone to help them expand. The job posting stated 2+ years payroll experience (I have 3 years). She asked me for my salary expectations (I provided a range within their advertised threshold) and she told me they offer much more than that and I would qualify for the top end. She was going to schedule me for an interview with the CEO and his wife ASAP and even said she hoped I didn't receive an offer from another company before then (but if I did, I should contact her over the weekend because she is always working). She didn't even provide me time at the end to ask any questions I had. Regardless, I left the interview feeling very excited and hopeful to move forward for a position that was well-suited with my experience.
When I followed up the next week, she told me the CEO thought my background was more catered to HR than payroll and that I wouldn't be moving forward. Again, very frustrating considering we didn't even discuss my payroll experience in the screening interview and she seemed over the moon with my background. This left a very bad taste in my mouth, as I was excited to work for the company.
Hopefully the recruiter has tightened up her prescreening skills since, as this was a waste of time for myself, her position, and the CEO.
