      Retail Assistant Interview

      24 Jun 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Brisbane
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at ALDI (Brisbane) in Jun 2019

      Interview

I applied online through ALDI's Careers website. I got an email to attend a group interview 2 days later. The interview took place 5 days after. There was about 20 of us waiting at the front of the store. We had to wait an extra 15 minutes as the previous group had finished late. After that, the Area Manager invited our group into ALDI's warehouse where we stood around him in a semi circle. He did a roll call and then proceeded to talk about ALDI's recruitment process and the general tasks ALDI employees had to do each day. He emphasized the physicality of the role and said we would have to lift 20kgs on a regular basis. We were then given the opportunity to ask any questions about the role. After that, each person was given the opportunity to speak one-on-one with the Area Manager for two minutes. During this interview, he asked about previous experience, availability and long term career plans. This was all very quick and brief as he has to get through 20 people. Two days later, I got an email saying that they regret to advise that you have been unsuccessful in advancing to the next round. If I could give any advice, that is to please focus on your strength and fitness. This is because you will be required to constantly lift and carry large amounts of stock around the store. Therefore, if you know you will be unable to do this at least 5 times a week, I would recommend working on building muscle so that you can easily lift over 20kgs and losing any excess body fat that may slow you down. I myself am overweight with little lifting ability and I think the Area Manager knew I didn't have the fitness levels to do the job. Note: I have no intentions to cause any offense or to make anyone upset. I also do not believe you can make assumptions about someone's health based solely on their appearance. However, there sometimes can be up to 2000 applicants for each job ad so the recruitment team at ALDI can afford to be selective. Therefore, I think it is important to be prepared for the psychical nature of the job and show your skills in the best light possible. I wish everyone the best of luck.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I interviewed at ALDI (Stechford, England)

      Interview

Was overly complicated and too many stages, online test x2 and a recorded interview. Application itself is very tedious and is not very friendly to new users. Apparently you need to know someone already in ALDI to work at there stores.

You'll just have to do a short video interview with one practical question and three interview questions. Each questions is 60seconds with 90seconds for breaks. So good luck. Make sure your microphone is working. Good luck 👍
