I have gone through a lot of interviews in my life and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. One of the owners - who interviewed me for this position - was abrasive, rude, insensitive, aggressive... the list goes on. Not only did she put my character into question numerous times throughout the interview process for "not being an aggressive enough salesperson" and having me complete a handful of assessments, but she also made me feel so exposed and exploited by going through each and every one of my answers with me, criticizing me along the way - it was completely dehumanizing. I was almost offered the position before I explained that I was leaving the country for a week during what would have been my first month of work. Mind you, this trip was planned over a year ago with other people and stops in between - and it was only three weeks out, so no, I could not reschedule it.
Because I was "unwilling to move my trip" and considered it to be "more important than this job" (her words) I was denied the position via a one-sentence text message. The level of hypocrisy this woman exhibited was astonishing because after I didn't hear from her for two weeks because she was on vacation, I withdrew my application because I was offered another position elsewhere - even though the job description explains that no vacations are allowed in the summer due to it being busy season. Once I withdrew my application, she then decided I might be worth giving an offer to... I am honestly grateful this all happened because it saved me from reporting to a horrible human being and suffering from what would have likely been a lot of emotional abuse. I feel incredibly sorry for the employees that work under this woman.
