I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at A Wider Circle (Silver Spring, MD) in Jul 2018
Interview
This was the worst interview I have ever had in my 10 years of being a working professional. An hour before the interview I was called my the head of HR to say that the position was actually filled, but encouraged me to come in because there were open positions. There was at least one position open that fit my background and skill set, but in the interview I felt extremely pushed towards an entry level position amounting to answering phones and making schedules. I mentioned an interest in another position to the ED and he basically shut down the interview that moment saying something to the effect of, "Well, we get lots of talented people who interview here but we can't hire everyone. We will be in touch." It seemed that they were more desperate to fill a position than to invest in talent that will actually stay and feel like a part of the community. A few days later I received an email from the HR director saying they weren't going to move forward with my application, despite there being several relevant positions for me. The whole process was disorganized and I have never felt so discouraged before.
I would like to address some of your concerns about the interview process. We certainly appreciate and never take for granted an applicant’s interest and desire to do this work.
If a position has been filled after we have already scheduled interviews for that position - and that is rare - we want to inform candidates and offer an opportunity to explore other positions.
We recognize that going through the application process in any organization is oftentimes a stressful experience, and we do our best to be communicative, transparent, and respectful. We are very sorry that was not your impression or experience, and we will continue to work hard to make the interview process a positive one.
