I underwent a three-round interview process for a position at a company. The first interview with a team member was welcoming and indicative of a strong company culture. However, a more detailed follow-up interview with the same team member was unexpectedly canceled.
Instead, I was informed that the second round would be with the CEO, which was a significant deviation from the initial plan. Despite the CEO being tardy without notice, I tried to give the benefit of the doubt, attributing it to unforeseen circumstances. However, it turned out to be a red flag as the interview atmosphere felt tense and the CEO's responses seemed uncertain.
Following the interview, I was given an assignment which I completed diligently within the estimated timeframe, even including optional tasks. Unfortunately, the feedback I received was disheartening. One of the tasks, which involved providing samples of letters sent to candidates in previous experiences, was critiqued for lacking key sales points tailored to the specific role they were hiring for. This feedback seemed odd as the task didn't specify targeting candidates for their particular role.
Additionally, they expressed disappointment that I hadn't gone into more detail with the optional task, despite completing it. This led me to question the true purpose behind the assignment. It appears that they may not be open to candidates from diverse backgrounds and that their proclaimed company culture might not be as inclusive as initially portrayed. It seems they are seeking candidates who strictly adhere to their processes rather than embracing different perspectives.
