Dysfunctional Team and Company led by Micromanagers
Pros
Generous salary and shoe discounts
Cons
Working at Skechers was truly one of the worst experiences of my life. I have over 7 years of professional marketing experience, so I joined one of their marketing teams to realize the team was completely dysfunctional despite the opportunities promised in the interview process. All approvals have to go through to the VP/upper management and there is no cross-functional collaboration (hence no transparency across teams). Business decisions are based solely on arbitrary leadership's personal opinions, so there is no process or consistency. One thing could be approved one day and leadership could change their mind the next week. The culture is so old school that doesn't align with the modern way of working or hybrid culture (ex: everyone is expected to be at their desk from 9-5/6 pm regardless if there is enough work). Managers will monitor your Microsoft Teams status, so most employees walk on eggshells. Almost all the leaders are micromanagers creating a toxic environment for anyone not on leadership. The primary goal was not to sell shoes but to keep upper management happy. Would never recommend anyone work at Skechers, please go find a healthier corporate job elsewhere.
