What is the hiring process like at Shake Shack?

The District at Green Valley Ranch location—Poor treatment, low morale, inept management, favoritism

      Cross trainer
      Former employee
      Henderson, NV
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good food, decent employee discount on shift.

      Cons

Poor management, GM feeds you complete fluff upon hiring but doesn’t follow through, they are feet draggers, they hold you back on training stations even if you’re beyond proficient and a fast learner, hence holding employees back on promotions unless you’re a favorite or friend of friend, in which case the GM will rush them through training to promote to a position they’re not proficiently trained for or qualified for. They treat team members with favoritism, most shift managers goof off during shifts, talk in office, dictate not assist during rushes and GM allows this behavior creating low morale and poor work environment. Promotion is a joke even if you are a hard and proficient worker if you are not of the favorites group. Drama. GM is a problem, does nothing to make it a better work environment, just sits in office while everything goes on around him that employees have brought to his attention as issues. And then the GM wonders why people quit and employee morale is low, put in effort, excel, and no return and employees calling off.

      Amazing coworkers, but misleading advertisement

      Pros

The training provided me with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform the job and pass each station.

      Cons

Despite observing some warning signs during the job application process, I made the decision to accept the job due to my financial needs. There were instances where false information was provided during the hiring process. Furthermore, I was not given sufficient hours to work. Taking into account the extensive training I underwent, the pay rate, and the limited hours, I concluded that the job was not worthwhile for me.

      Pros

You have a flexible schedule; the interview process is pretty simple.

      Cons

Its the fast food industry so it stays busy.

Incompetent CFO that bullies subordinates, especially minorities

      Finance manager
      Former employee
      New York, NY
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Offers corporate employees remote and hybrid schedules. Tendency to overpay corporate employees since it’s based out of New York.

      Cons

CFO takes advantage of and bullies subordinates, especially minorities. Assigns work to unqualified associates, even those that don’t work in her department. Associates are afraid to speak out because of the retaliation that HR hides. A lot of turn over, which is why the interview process is so easy.

      Pros

Hired lots of staff before covid

      Cons

Wouldnt stop hiring staff and giving people less hours

      They don't understand workers rights

      Business outlook

      Pros

Easy, great benefits for fast food

      Cons

They have 0 hiring standards for management. Most are burnouts who act like high schoolers that treat employees badly and violate workers rights. After Cross trainer there isn't really room for promotion.

      Easy but could be stressful

      Business outlook

      Pros

      Easy job. Nothing is complicated.

      Cons

Things are made complicated by the AD and managers by having new policies all the time. If you get a manager that likes feedback then you’ll do good. If it’s one of those Desire’s or Dean’s, then good luck. This pair is as functional as a sack of balls after a vasectomy. The good managers leave or get fired. The passive ones and non- sensical ones stay by really sucking the balls of the AD.

      Pros

60-70% off staff meals Easy to get shifts Large job scope, makes job fun Very clean environment, good SOP

      Cons

Experience depends on team members you work with and what the manager assigns your station as. If they do not teach you new stations, you will be thrown to do the same station every week.

Chill management and great discounts, but confusing training

      Team member
      Current employee
      Boston, MA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      - Manager + GM are usually chill (at my location at least) - Lenient in comparison to other "fast food chains." - 60 percent employee discount (sometimes manager comps your meal).

      Cons

      - Entire training process was confusing (felt like being thrown into a lion's den for the first two weeks).
