How are the career development opportunities at Oscar Recruit?

I’ve had a really positive experience working at Oscar Technology as a Senior Recruitment Consultant. The people are one of the biggest positives of the business — supportive, driven, and easy to work with, which creates a good team environment. The training provided is strong for both new starters and experienced consultants. New staff are given a solid foundation, and there’s ongoing training to help existing consultants continue to develop and progress. There’s a clear focus on learning and improvement across the business. The earning potential is very good, with a competitive commission structure that rewards hard work. The holidays and achievers’ incentives are also a real bonus and help recognise performance in a meaningful way. There are genuine opportunities to progress, and leadership is approachable and supportive. The experience gained working with quality clients in a fast-paced environment has been valuable and has helped me develop both professionally and commercially. Overall, it’s a great place to work for ambitious people who want to develop their skills, earn well, and be part of a positive team culture.

There's definitely long hours required, but that's the same with any high performance sales role. If you're someone who's looking for a bog standard 9-5 this won't be for you.

Oscar have a clear promotion path and you are supported to get to the next level through training, Regular one to one check ins and a structured career plan enable you to look at what's working and what you can do to improve and progress. Commission is excellent and their is regular ad hoc incentives to enhance earnings. The communications from both senior managers and team members is great and there is a lot of recognition even for the small wins along side company wide monthly catch ups. Social side is also excellent and balances out the hard work.

Its a sales role and therefore a job that requires bags of resilience but if you are willing to put in the effort the rewards will come.

The managers are amazing. People are great and want to do well for themselves. 1pm finish on a Friday

We all understand the business was struggling and we all understood due to this, cuts needed to be made. What Oscar don’t understand is HOW they went around this. The support team were made redundant and the managing director was no where to be seen. Not at any point where these people thanked, instead when they left they were slandered and we were told they provided nothing to the business. These people grafted for Oscar everyday and wanted the best for the company. I’ve noticed that these people have posted their new roles on LinkedIn, and the managing director can’t even like a post and congratulate them on their new job. Once you leave Oscar, you do not exist. They say they care about employees but actions speak louder than words. You literally sacked people a week before Christmas. Non of these people were given a warning. You have some people commuting 4 hours a day to get into the office 5 days a week when this was something no one signed up for, eventually this will burn your staff out and leave them run down. It’s even worse as these people don’t even need to be in the office this often because they are established recruiters. The only reason why they have to come in is because you made L&D redundant so there is no one else to look after new staff. The career progression at Oscar is great. However once you become senior and get a trainee, you alone will have to train them with no support whilst trying to keep your own desk afloat. If you want to provide your opinion on any of this, don’t because they will say your attitude is wrong and to stop moaning. You could be sacked for it. You will see a lot of good reviews being posted all at the same time. This is because we are being asked to write them. People are scared not to otherwise they will loose their jobs. As you can see so far, the positive reviews are vague To anyone new thinking of joining Oscar- Please remember it is a Rec to Recs job for you to accept the role, don’t believe the excuses they give you around these reviews. If you apply directly do not believe Oscar’s. Remember you are talking to sales people. There are far better companies to join, I know recruitment is a tough gig, but Oscar make that even tougher. Join a company that actually care about you.

There are lots of pros of working at Oscar! Mainly the training I receive and progression plans in place. Also the socials every month are a great perk.

Great opportunities to advance and progress. Management are very supportive and will give you all the help you need to succeed. The consultants in the Austin office are brilliant. They're excellent people and a joy to be around - Highly recommend!

The work life balance is tough but this is the case for any recruitment job.

- Excellent individual contributor commission structure - Career growth opportunities - Unrivaled PTO - If you're resourceful, some of the best recruiters I've ever worked with work here and are always happy to help/advise/support - A majority of work was from repeat clients because of the high level of service - Offices furnished with pool tables, TVs, full kitchen, free groceries - NOT a hire and fire culture at all! During covid ZERO people were laid off - Regular incentives for trips abroad (I went on three in one year!) - "Special treatment", time and patience given to those who have the right attitude and work ethic - The CEO supported me throughout my 7 years with this company. "Favoritism" was often associated with those who had the right attitude and work ethic - Working at Oscar enabled me to buy my first home, a couple of nice cars, and take care of my family financially - No bridges burned, no fallout when I left - and I was treated with fairness and respect

- Like any sales role, if you're underperforming, you will be under pressure and eventually let go if performance doesn't improve - The post-covid tech market boomed like nothing I've seen before. Junior recruiters who joined around this time were not necessarily set up for success in a "normal" market yet like most sales businesses, it took a while for monthly targets to reflect a more normalized market - As the business experienced exponential growth, processes, procedures and structure had to mature - which does take time and was great when I left - Social events could go into the early hours which isn't for everyone - especially me! Although I was never pressurized into staying out late or lambasted for not having done so!

Career progression is outlined from the get-go. Great Training with different managers as well as external. Great Incentives.

You’re trusted to do your job without micromanagement. Fast-paced, but not chaotic — there's room to grow and innovate without burnout.

Like any company that’s scaling, things can move quickly and priorities can shift — but if you’re adaptable, it’s exciting more than frustrating.
