What is the salary like at MIT Lincoln Laboratory?

Wonderful culture (at least in my group, this can vary across Groups and divisions), brilliant, humble, and helpful people, amazing plethora of projects to work on, and fantastic work-life balance and respect of boundaries. Great pay and benefits for an FFRDC.

Some time expectations of what one should be doing as a technical staff aren't clear, there's so many ways to exist as one at the lab and so many potential paths one can take. However, this is pretty minor compared to the pros. Also, bonuses would be nice

The internship itself is enjoyable - you're surrounded by tons of smart people whether it be your co-interns or mentors. Various presentations, workshops, and gatherings occur too; make the most out of those to learn and enjoy the summer.

The housing is pretty expensive - roughly $500 a week for 10 weeks. It takes out a lot of your pay which by itself is already not the highest.

Very interesting projects, great people, great benefits, amazing work life balance. Lab culture is probably unmatched anywhere else. Pay is decent and competitive, but not as much as industry.

Extremely difficult to get promoted, or advanced your career unless you have a Ph.D.

Worked with some of the smartest people I’ve ever known. Great opportunities to learn from your coworkers and an atmosphere that encourages learning, including a well-run technical education program. Fabulous support staff and technicians that can get seemingly impossible things done quickly. Great resources and lab spaces (if a bit dated). The nature of the work encourages good work/life balance. Fantastic benefits (though the pay is low).

No/limited opportunities for advancement makes this a hard place to work mid-career. Good engineers are promoted to be mediocre managers. Every program is under-funded, under-staffed, and over schedule. Bad managers are shuffled around but rarely fired.
