Pros
Great way to add some stats to your resume
Some really nice people do work here
Opportunities to relationship build with some vendors
Cons
Constant Travel from home to NYC office 1-2 times a week
Unrealistic workload expectations
Little to no recognition for completed task
Minor mistakes were magnified
No support from upper management
Constantly moving managers at any given moment
Lack of diversity which shows
My manager retired after my onboarding was complete and upper management was constantly traveling overseas. I was left without a consistent direct manager for months and it hindered my progress. but upper management blamed me for not developing on my own upon their much awaited return.
When the new manager started I immediately knew she was a good Buyer but a horrible manager of people. Very emotional and made a violent gesture at me (clapped hands aggressively). Was put on a Performance plan with no mention of the things I was doing correctly. This was the first time in my life a manager said i was not "personable".
I was called out for being 30 minutes late to the NYC office after I gave ample notice that my train from Jersey was delayed. I was also called out for being 10/15 minutes late when I often times stayed until 6pm/7pm/8pm at times trying to complete busy work that could've been taken off my plate.
Preferential treatment was given to Caucasian women and men in the community. Very Cliquy. Everyone was always taking their lunch break at their desk, and it made for a very anxiety-stricken work-life balance.
In the two years I was there, about 90% of my orientation class left or were fired. I was one of the last to make it that long.
And the pay was simply not that great to deal with all of this.
