Louis Vuitton Malletier, commonly referred to as Louis Vuitton is a French fashion house founded in 1854 by Louis Vuitton. The label's LV monogram appears on most of its products, ranging from luxury trunks and leather goods to ready-to-wear, shoes, watches, jewelery, accessories, sunglasses and books. Louis Vuitton is one of the world's leading international fashion houses; it sells its products through standalone boutiques, lease departments in high-end department stores, and through the e-commerce section of its website.

Gucci Group, an Italian company with a Dutch address that sells French fashion, does quite well in Japan, too. The fashion house makes and markets upscale handbags and other leather goods, shoes, ready-to-wear clothing, cosmetics, fragrances, skin care, jewelry, and watches. In addition to the Gucci brand, the company sells products under such major premium brands as Bottega Veneta and Yves Saint Laurent. Gucci operates more than 680 boutiques worldwide and wholesales its products through franchisees and high-end department stores. French retailer PPR has purchased almost all of the remaining shares in the company, taking its interest up to 99.9% in 2010.

The Prada Group wants its customers to either shop for their products til they drop, or go broke trying. The Italian fashion house was born from the marriage of avant-garde designer Miuccia Prada and boisterous Patrizio Bertelli and their leather goods and manufacturing businesses. Prada sells upscale apparel, shoes (Church's), fragrances, and accessories for men and women, as well as its less-pricey Miu Miu apparel line. The company operates more than 325 stores worldwide. It's known for being a risk-taker on the runway. Led by CEO Patrizio Bertelli, Prada raised about $2.5 billion in a long-anticipated 2011 IPO. Prada boasts a Netherlands-domiciled parent company, Prada Holding N.V.

If you have to ask, "How much?" you probably can't afford a Bulgari bauble. One of the world's leading luxury jewelry and watch companies (behind Tiffany & Co. and Cartier), Bulgari has been crafting prized pieces for the rich and famous for about 125 years. Today Bulgari reaches a larger -- but no less exclusive -- market through more than 280 well-placed Bulgari stores, as well as select retailers worldwide. Japan is the Rome-based company's biggest market. Bulgari's lines include jewelry, watches, perfumes, leather goods, silks, pens, and eyewear (under license with Italy's Luxottica). Founded in 1884 by silversmith Sotirio Bulgari, the Bulgari family sold the business to French luxury giant LVMH in 2011.
