Honestly the best company I've ever worked for

Pros

This is definitely the best company I've worked for. The benefits are amazing, the office is really snazzy, the people are friendly, welcoming, committed and good at their jobs. The flat hierarchy and flexible working works well and the company's response to Covid-19 couldn't have been improved. I felt cared for and listened to - definitely more than the government mandated. It also speaks volumes that our output and deliverables haven't been affected by the pandemic - the team has collaborated really well in difficult circumstances to deliver value to our lovely clients. When I was offered this role I was quite worried about some of the negative historic reviews on this website. However, I'm so pleased that I accepted the opportunity. I can say with some certainty that those reviews are no longer relevant and that things must have improved significantly over the years, so if you're also worried by them, don't be.

Cons

Like any organisation, time and resource can be stretched occasionally, meaning everyone has to work a bit harder and for longer. But this is offset with occasional quiet periods too, meaning it generally balances out. This probably isn't the company for you if you're very strict on your 9-5.30 timings and aren't willing to put in a bit more effort from time to time.

Great place to learn and get involved

Pros

Joining Rockpool means getting plunged head first into work. It's great for people that are eager to learn, want to boost their career and really get stuck in. You will learn quickly, and lots. Responsibility is ramped up according to what management think you can handle, and you can always ask for help and support (which will be given) if you're feeling overwhelmed or unsure. The teams in Rockpool are all well thought out, and all work excellently together both within teams and across the teams. The flat hierarchy is quite different than a lot of other software development places, and creates a feeling of mutual respect amongst colleagues. Benefits are great, there's plenty of team and company outings, loads of benefits to support your activities outside of work, and the flexible working is not just a name, but is actively enforced within the company so that if you prefer starting or finishing earlier, as long as you're getting your work done and attending meetings, it's really not watched. You also get a personal development fund and time, which is excellent to take courses to boost your work.

Cons

Responsibility and taking ownership of work is a huge thing in Rockpool. If you're not comfortable working to close deadlines, potentially putting in the extra hours to make sure client needs are met, and also facing consequences (nothing major but it will be brought up) if you say you will do something and don't, then this isn't the place for you. It's not a place to skate by in the background, but a place to really excel and take ownership of your work.
