I work in a (relatively) remote area, with very few customers. This means that most of the time (10 or so months of the year) I am on call only, still getting 40hr/week, but at home. When I go to a customer, I’m not there for a set time, I’m there until the work is done, could be 30min, could be 6hours.
Cons
The nature of on call work... sometimes I have to drop my plans and go take care of work issues, sometimes in another state.
Also, the nature of being in this part of the country, some of my commutes are several (6 or more) hours to do 30min of work.
