Pros

I’ve worked in recruitment for over 20 years, with the last 8 years spent at Navartis. I joined the business as an International Recruiter specialising in the rail sector, despite having no previous experience in that industry. Over time, and with the support of the in-house training and development, I’ve grown into a well-rounded recruiter with a broad skill set across the industry. Being older than many of the people who work here, I initially wasn’t sure how well I’d fit in. In reality, I settled in straight away because everyone is driven by the same goal — to succeed and make money. One of the best things about Navartis is the variety of people and backgrounds within the business. We have people from all walks of life, which makes the environment both interesting and enjoyable. Since joining the company, I’ve been promoted several times and now work as a Principal Consultant — quite a journey from where I started as a Senior Consultant, just now with a few more grey hairs along the way. A lot of people think recruitment is easy or say things like, “You get paid that much just for sending a CV.” What many don’t realise is how challenging recruitment can be. It comes with constant highs and lows, balancing client expectations, managing candidates, and continuously working to match the right people with the right opportunities. Recruitment is far more than just filling jobs. It requires resilience, listening skills, creativity, problem-solving, and at times you feel more like a psychologist than a recruiter. It’s a true 360 role — from winning business and sourcing candidates through to managing offers, acceptances, and onboarding. Even then, the process doesn’t stop, as we continue supporting both the client and candidate throughout their development and first 12 months in the role. It’s definitely not an easy career, but it is incredibly rewarding.

Cons

When certain days are a struggle to get hold of candidates or clients. That can be quite tough and demanding, just because you want to succeed. And I wish that I had told myself when I first started that not to take rejection so seriously it's not a personality attack from clients.

Pros

I have been with Navartis for 9 months now, and it is genuinely one of the best career decisions I have ever made. Before joining Navartis, I had no sales experience, no telephone based work experience, and no recruitment background. I came from the hospitality industry, where I had worked for just under 10 years. I started as a Trainee Recruitment Consultant with very little idea of what to expect. From day one, though, you are fully immersed in the training alongside other trainees, which makes the whole process much less daunting. The structure worked perfectly, learning in the mornings and then putting that training into practice during the afternoons on calls. The support within the training bay was second to none. There was always a strong focus on improvement, whether through listening sessions, constructive feedback, or recognition when you handled something well on a call. That constant learning and development made the trainee experience genuinely exciting. It also helped knowing you weren’t alone, especially on those days when it felt like voicemail after voicemail. What people say is true: you get out what you put in. Eventually, things started to click. The interviews, the jobs, the setbacks, and the rejections all became part of the process. Then I finally secured my first placement, and it was one of the best feelings ever. You work incredibly hard to get deals over the line, and seeing that first one complete made it all worthwhile.

Cons

I wished I just fully jumped into the phone calls and didn't stress or deep it as much as I did.
