Pros

A very interesting industry- publication is challenging but creative and rewarding to work in. Connie is a great businesswoman and really helpful in teaching employees who want to learn from her. Good atmosphere in the office and the team really works together to get things done (especially in crunch time!).

Cons

Busy job, lots going on and better suited to those who can multitask efficiently. Strict deadlines (publication industry) but manageable.

Pros

Modern Dog Magazine is a great place to get started in editorial; my time there allowed me to further develop my writing skills in a space where I wasn't afraid to ask questions or make a few mistakes. The best part about working at Modern Dog was getting to be part of a supportive team that celebrated creative thinking and a collaborative work style. The editors were always willing to help me out, whether I was facing a challenging task or looking to develop new ideas.

Cons

Crunch times can occur as issues go to press. There are pretty tight deadlines at certain times of the year that are important to plan ahead for.

Pros

A great place to gain experience in all aspects of magazine publishing, and have the opportunity to participate in a little bit of everything. Worked in the marketing section learning a whole new skillset there, and also got a chance to do other interesting things outside of that. Scheduling worked out around my school hours too. Plus, a friendly team and a pack of lovely dogs!

Cons

It can be a little overwhelming since publishing deadlines are hectic, and there's a lot happening all at once.
