Pros

Graphite is the kind of place where smart people move fast, collaborate well, and genuinely care about doing great work. The culture feels focused and supportive — everyone’s aligned, communication is strong, and there’s real clarity around where the company is heading. It’s a modern, ambitious environment with a team that’s sharp, kind, and fun to work with. If you want to grow and actually feel your work moving the needle, it’s a great place to be.

Cons

Pros

I've worked in the accounting world for nearly 2 decades with experience in both public and corporate account (both international and domestic). In public I was an auditor, so I've seen the 'flip' side of controller services as well as been everything from a clerk (when I first started out) to a fractional CFO. Here is what Graphite does right: -opportunity: GFG has a huge opportunity for those willing to come in with a learning attitude, take initiative, and grow with the group to move up quickly. Anyone who says otherwise might need to do a little introspection because the opportunity is definitely there -fast paced environment: if you hate the repetitive nature of corporate accounting but also hate the political nature of pubic and want to have your day changing constantly with work across several clients, then this is a good fit for you! That isn't right for everyone and in my experience the one's who end up leaving due to 'culture' with GFG or with other complaints about complaints on their quality of work aren't bad accountants they just are a good fit for this environment. My day as a snr. manager changes nearly by the minute. I might be jumping from call to call or fitting in training or client work in between the meetings on my calendar. I love that fast-paced, changing environment, but its not for everyone. -Work with Start-ups: GFG is super cool because unlike anywhere else, we specialize in working specifically with start-ups. This means you get to work with CEO's and learn about industries that others only ever read about on Reddit! For me that is a huge plus because our clients are cutting-edge, forward thinking companies making a real impact in the world! -Education: While not every manager or above is going to sit down and teach, I would say that currently just about every manager or above will happily meet with anyone from the associate to their peer and talk about and learn together. I think most of us make ourselves fully available to our teams and clients, which is also what sets us apart. -Access to the CEO: I've worked very few places where I have access to book time on our CEO's calendar and talk about my ideas, my worries, my suggestions, and anything I want. At GFG I've found that everyone has access to all levels of team members, which is invaluable. -Strength utilization: GFG does a great job of working to improve the whole group and utilize people for their strengths.

Cons

-Understaffed: This is a tough one because the nature of the market after COVID combined with such fast growth in client-leads means we can't keep up with our hiring needs. This put a lot of pressure on the entire team from upper levels of management down to associates, though I do think most of us try to keep our senior associates and associates within a reasonable balance and take on more to prevent them from burnout. -Knowing when to fire a client or not sign a client: This is an area that any and all growing start-ups or service groups face at some point. We have enough clients coming in that we need to start being more selective about knowing the flags for when to avoid clients. -A little chaotic: I'm putting this as a con because when I started it truly was a con, but since then I've seen tangible and major steps by the company to fix some issues in this area. Onboarding is improving both for new employees and clients, balance is something everyone is striving to achieve and working towards small changes with big impacts. If it seems like I love GFG, I do. I think its a unique experience that for the right people offers an amazing opportunity to get-in on the ground floor of a financial group with amazing growth and future potential. I think the only CONS that hold weight are tied to that growth and the growing pains of a young company trying to figure out what works best and what doesn't. I've personally sat with our CEO and had conversations around how important employee happiness is to him and not just the client happiness. I believe fully that everyone at the group truly cares about all levels of team members and I've seen first-hand on several occasions team leaders putting a ton of effort into growing talent. Unfortunately, a part of this industry is knowing that not every person is suited to billable, client-driven work and not every person can learn and grow at the pace or be the type of self-starter that this environment is best suited for. I think unfortunately those are the individuals who leave unhappy whereas the ones who can understand their own blind spots and how to grow are the ones who move one to other opportunities with fond memories. Sorry for the super long review, but anything less than detailed isn't fair to Graphite.
