Pros

I'm a new employee at DMS and what I've seen and experienced so far has me excited to work here. Our field is broad and it can be hard to find companies where specialty training and mentorship exist. I personally really appreciated getting to spend time pre-employment getting comfortable with the endoscope and seeing how things run before starting work. I've had jobs I've loved and I've had ones where I realized afterward that the rosy interview picture wasn't reality. It was really nice to be able to see what it is really like to be a mobile FEES provider before committing. The training, the observations, and the in-field clinical privileging all all part of the process to making sure that DMS gets great therapists and that SLPs get a great company. It's also a bonus to have continued mentorship for the first year of employment; the senior team members that I met seemed truly invested in the work and growth of those they trained and mentored.

Cons

Yes, it is a longer than typical process to become employed but, as stated above, I feel it is a necessary process. There is a lot of autonomy for DMS's SLPs and when you're sending out therapists to do specialized work and represent the company, it is important to know that you're sending out knowledgeable and personable clinicians. It's maybe lengthier than other interviewing processes but it's not unreasonable and it's completely understandable.

Pros

Our people! We have some of the most well trained and highly skilled individuals in the country. I am continually amazed by them. They continue to seek out education and training to foster their development, even if they have been with DMS for more than a decade. They go outside their comfort zones and they provide top of the line patient care. They engage other healthcare professionals and SLPs in their areas and we can see that it is working! CMS is making major changes to its initiatives to emphasize the role of dysphagia management in reducing repeat hospital admissions (especially in the SNF beginning October 2019!). Our people have been on the forefront of this for 5yrs. They communicate constantly with the professionals in their areas. They see patients quickly, efficiently and diagnose/treat dysphagia effectively. They drive to many locations all around their home facility and always arrive with a smile on their faces. They educate caregivers and patients and everyone in the 24/7, 365 view of their patients. They are humble, but wise. They know this is an ongoing process and continue to seek out anything that will advance their skills. I am so proud to play a minor part of this group of quality individuals' efforts to improve patient care and be on the front lines of the changes in healthcare to come!

Cons

It is a tough process. It takes a very motivated, humble and energetic individual to be the kind of expert that this job requires. We are cutting edge and we are the top in the field. There are many factors that can affect an individual's success and when those factors prevent success, it can be hard for them! We wish all our past employees well and hope they succeed in their ventures. We understand that being the top expert in the field can be more than what someone is looking for at that time. All of the individuals who have ever worked for us are extremely skilled and highly qualified SLPs and we know that they succeed outside of DMS in the way they need to! The ones who succeed with DMS have a tendency to stay for decades and continue to develop as experts in an ever changing field.
