Qcells Invests $2.5 Billion in Building Complete Solar Supply Chain in U.S. The company aims to have 8.4-gigawatt of solar panel production capacity by 2024 and hire 2,500 people in the clean-energy sector. It is the largest investment in U.S. solar history to build the nation’s only complete and sustainable solar supply chain. Seoul and Atlanta, Jan 11, 2023 — Qcells, a global leader in complete clean energy solutions, today announced it will invest more than $2.5 billion to build a complete solar supply chain in the United States. The company’s commitment to the clean energy economy in America will create nearly 2,500 direct jobs in Georgia. The announcement marks the largest investment in the history of American solar and sets Qcells up as the only company in the U.S. to establish a fully-integrated, silicon-based solar supply chain from raw material to finished panel. In the first quarter of 2023, Qcells will break ground on a new, state-of-the-art facility in Bartow County, Georgia that will manufacture 3.3 gigawatts (GW) of solar ingots, wafers, cells, and finished panels, respectively. Historic 12 GW agreement designed to help decarbonize the grid and diversify the global clean energy supply chain Qcells, a global leader in complete clean energy solutions announced an eight-year strategic alliance with Microsoft Corp., a global technology company that solidifies Microsoft as one of the world’s largest purchasers of renewable energy. In its largest module and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services agreement to date, Qcells will supply Microsoft with 12 gigawatts (GW) of solar modules and EPC services over an 8-year period – the equivalent to powering more than 1.8 million homes annually. This includes a 2.5 GW module and EPC services commitment previously announced in January 2023. Qcells is working on building a strong and secure U.S. solar supply chain while producing sustainably-made solar modules. Microsoft continues to invest in purchasing renewable energy and other efforts to meet its sustainability goals of being carbon negative, water positive and zero waste by 2030. With those goals, the two companies will collaborate to bring an estimated 1.5 GW of solar panels a year to projects Microsoft has contracted through 2032.
