While Ford says its US-manufactured trucks are "built Ford tough," the smaller vehicles manufactured at Ford India are hardly wimpy. Ford India produces vehicle bodies for several models -- the sedans Fiesta and Ikon, the Endeavour, a midsize SUV, and the small hatchback, Figo. Ford India makes about 100,000 vehicles per year at its factory in Chennai, in the state of Tamil Nadu, and it sells about 20,000 vehicles a month from 130 dealerships across the country. The manufacturing plant, operating since 1996, comprises stamping operations, body and paint shops, a zone for interior trim, chassis, wheels, and fluids, as well as quality testing.
