An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Connected Customer Conversations (CCC) Engineering Squad in the Data & Analytics Platform as an Associate Analytics Engineer with 1–2 years' experience.
You'll play a supporting role in building and maintaining data products that power our Marketing Automation ecosystem, working alongside senior engineers as we migrate our data assets to Snowflake. ASB operates in the Scaled Agile Framework, and the Data Engineering Chapter supports platforms, projects, and tribes across ASB to ensure that we have the right data, at the right time, reliably to make sound business decisions. Most of our Analytics Engineers sit in the Data & Analytics Platform, and in addition we work across the bank's platforms, tribes, and Analytics & Insights domains with dedicated Analytics Engineers to help achieve their own data engineering ambitions. Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
As an Associate Analytics Engineer, you'll work within a cross-functional squad to support the design, build, and maintenance of data products that serve our marketing and customer engagement domains. You'll be guided and mentored by senior engineers and chapter leads as you develop your skills and gradually take on more responsibility.
No two days will be the same – your work will range from writing and testing SQL queries, assisting with pipeline operations, supporting our Snowflake migration, and learning how to collaborate with analysts and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
Ngā kawenga | What You'll Do
Learn & Build: Develop foundational skills in data modelling and pipelines using modern tools like dbt, Snowflake, and StreamSets. Write SQL to transform raw data into reliable, analytics-ready datasets with guidance from senior team members.
- Collaborate & Govern: Work closely with Senior/Lead Engineers, Data Product Owners, and Subject Matter Experts to understand business requirements and learn how data products align with ASB's data governance standards.
- Support & Maintain: Assist in monitoring and maintaining data pipelines across cloud and on-prem environments, support incident resolution, and learn root cause analysis for data quality issues.
- Contribute & Improve: Participate in code reviews, contribute to documentation, and support testing frameworks under the guidance of experienced engineers.
- Grow & Develop: Enjoy dedicated time for training and certification, with structured mentorship from Senior/Lead Engineers and Chapter Leads. Build a clear pathway toward Analytics Engineer and beyond.
Ō Pūkenga | About You
- You will bring to the role 1–2 years' data-related experience or relevant tertiary qualifications in a related field (computer science, information systems, data analytics, or similar).
- You enjoy working within a team environment, are eager to learn, ask good questions, and are building your ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholder groups.
- You will have foundational SQL skills, with some experience or coursework in writing queries, joins, and basic aggregations. Exposure to or eagerness to learn ETL/ELT tools such as Wherescape RED, dbt, or StreamSets is advantageous. Familiarity with or willingness to learn Cloud Data platforms e.g. Snowflake is a plus.
- You will have an interest in data modelling and awareness of concepts such as dimensional modelling (e.g., Kimball star schema). Exposure to working in a team or professional environment is beneficial but not essential.
- You keep up to date with industry developments, are committed to continuous learning, and are beginning to explore data warehouse design techniques like Kimball, Inmon, and/or Data Vault.
