As a Software Engineer in our Technology & Data team you will design, build, and integrate the specialised applications that keep the GCSB and NZSIS operating efficiently. Working closely with stakeholders, you will turn customer ideas into clear design plans, pick the right commercial or partner tools, and weave them together so everything works seamlessly. You will also maintain and improve existing systems, ensuring they remain reliable, welldocumented, and aligned with our security and accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with stakeholders to convert ideas into detailed design specifications.
• Evaluate, procure, and integrate commercial or partner tools that meet functional and security requirements.
• Develop new features or whole components when commercial solutions are unsuitable, including test planning and useracceptance activities.
• Monitor emerging technologies and recommend enhancements that improve capability or efficiency.
• Produce clear support guides and maintain uptodate documentation for certification, accreditation, and operational handover.
• Diagnose and resolve defects, optimise performance, and apply patches to existing codebases.
• Serve as a technical advisor to other teams, explaining system architecture and bestpractice usage to maximise overall system value.

You are a motivated software engineer who sees every line of code as a valuable asset and thrives in a rapidpace, securityfocused setting.

You will bring along your experience with:

• Java and/or Javascript/Typescript/ReactJs
• Containers and Kubernetes fundamentals
• Database fundamentals in one or more of ElasticSearch, Redis, MariaDB, and Postgres
• Be comfortable working across the full SDLC and using CI/CD
• Experience with RedHat OpenShift
• Experience working with Appian and its proprietary expression language
• Familiarity with rules engines
• Good understanding of applied DevSecOps

The expected appointing range for this position is:

• Level 1: $87,048 - $92,851 (G)
• Level 2: $103,009 - $109,876 (H)

Before you apply

Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.

You must:

• Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years

OR

Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years

• Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
  • Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
