About the Role
KMS holds the subcontract to design, supply and install the new Wellington Temporary Departure Ferry Terminal — a 750 sqm modular building on CentrePort Wellington for KiwiRail / Interislander. The subcontract value is $4.2M with a programme of approximately 31 weeks. KMS is subcontracted to Brian Perry Civil (BPC), part of Fletcher Construction.
We are looking for an experienced and driven Project Manager to own end-to-end delivery of this scope — from design coordination through construction, commissioning, Operational Readiness & Transition (ORAT), and handover. You will work directly with the Director and interface daily with BPC, CentrePort and KiwiRail.
This is a high-visibility role with real impact on Wellington's ferry service and a direct line to the Director — fast decisions, no middle-management bottleneck.
Key Responsibilities
Programme & Delivery
- Own the integrated WTT delivery programme across design coordination, supply, construction, commissioning, ORAT and handover. You are the single point of delivery accountability to the Director and to BPC.
- Provide a permanent onsite PM presence at CentrePort to improve coordination and QA across adjacent project areas.
- Drive the Capacity Model and KPI schedule to KiwiRail approval — the pre-IFC hold-point that gates Issued-For-Construction.
ORAT & Commissioning
- Own the Operational Readiness & Transition (ORAT) workstream, including staff familiarisation and training windows, day/night testing prior to acceptance, table-top exercises, and outage windows for check-in, counters and baggage.
- Coordinate the new baggage-handling system (~500 bags/hr peak) with KiwiRail Infrastructure and BPC — a critical-path lead item.
Design & Quality
- Chair design coordination across the consultant team (architectural, structural, fire, building services, geotech and civil); hold consultants to programme; manage RFIs and the WCC building-consent interface.
- Run QA, design control and change — hold-point matrix, risk register, SME inspections, as-built control.
Safety & Site Management
- Manage construction interface and safety — zero interface with the CPL crane lifting zone; maintain safe pedestrian access to the terminal precinct at all times.
- Coordinate wayfinding/branding plan and CPTED audit close-out prior to IFC.
Commercial & Stakeholder Management
- Lead stakeholder communications with KiwiRail, CentrePort, New Zealand Ferry Holdings and BPC.
- Support the Director on commercial delivery — variation register, monthly payment claims, programme and extension-of-time evidence, and P&G management.
- Plan decommissioning and reinstatement of the temporary terminal at end of life.
- Own the Mastt project record and executive reporting line to the Director.
