Part-Time Chef – Cafe Kitchen
Location: Hamilton
Hours: 15-25 hrs/week, 3-4 shifts. Mostly mornings + weekends
Pay: $25-$30/hr NZ based on experience
About the Role
We need a reliable chef to run our hot kitchen and prep during busy breakfast/lunch shifts. You’ll work alongside the head chef and baristas, not solo.
What You’ll Do
Cook: Prepare our cafe menu, specials, and cabinet food to spec and speed
Prep: Do daily prep, batch sauces, portion proteins, rotate stock FIFO
Quality Control: Check plating, taste, and consistency before it leaves the pass
Hygiene: Keep your station clean, follow food safety standards, do end-of-shift cleaning
Stock: Flag low stock, help with deliveries, minimize waste
You’ll Fit If You Have
Experience: 1-2 years in a cafe/restaurant kitchen. Line cook or junior chef is fine
Skills: Can work fast without dropping quality. Comfortable with grill, fryer, oven
Certs: Food Safety Certificate. NZ work rights if applying in NZ
Attitude: Calm under pressure, takes direction, doesn’t cut corners when it gets busy
Hours & Flexibility
Weekday mornings 7am-2pm and Saturday/Sunday shifts available. Fixed roster once settled. We’re flexible around study/second jobs if you’re reliable.
