Credit Analyst – Commercial Vehicle Finance (New Zealand)
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Credit Analyst to join our Commercial Vehicle Finance team. In this role, you will assess business lending applications for trucks, fleet vehicles, construction equipment, and other commercial assets, ensuring responsible lending decisions and strong portfolio performance.
About the Role
As a Credit Analyst, you will evaluate business finance applications and determine creditworthiness by analysing financial statements, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with lending policies and New Zealand financial regulations. You will play a key role in supporting sound lending decisions across asset and vehicle finance portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Assessment & Financial Analysis
- Review commercial loan and vehicle finance applications
- Analyse financial statements (profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Assess creditworthiness of SMEs and larger businesses
- Evaluate repayment capacity and overall financial stability
- Identify and assess risks within lending proposals
Risk Evaluation
- Apply internal credit policies and lending criteria
- Assess collateral such as vehicles, equipment, and guarantees
- Evaluate sector risk across transport, logistics, and construction industries
- Identify high-risk applications and recommend appropriate actions
Credit Reporting & Recommendations
- Prepare clear and structured credit submissions and approval reports
- Recommend approval, decline, or modification of loan structures
- Present credit findings to senior credit managers or committees
- Ensure documentation is accurate and suitable for audit and compliance purposes
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with business managers, brokers, and relationship managers
- Clarify financial information with clients and external partners
- Support deal structuring to balance commercial outcomes and risk management
Compliance & Portfolio Monitoring
- Ensure all lending activity complies with NZ financial regulations and internal policies
- Maintain accurate credit files and documentation
- Support audit and internal control processes
- Monitor existing portfolio performance and repayment behaviour
- Identify early warning signs of credit deterioration
Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Economics (preferred)
- Strong financial analysis and credit assessment skills
- Ability to interpret financial statements and business performance
- Solid understanding of credit risk and lending principles
- High attention to detail and sound judgement
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Previous experience in banking, lending, or financial services (2+ years preferred)
