Allevia Health is one of New Zealand's largest private healthcare organisations, providing comprehensive surgical and allied health services through an integrated care strategy designed to deliver better health journeys for our patients. Allevia Hospitals and Allevia Radiology are the jewels in our crown, and safety is fundamental to how we operate.
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to provide operational health, safety, and wellbeing advisory support across our hospital and radiology sites. Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, this role offers the opportunity to work closely with managers, facilities teams, and employees across a diverse healthcare environment.
This role will suit someone who enjoys applying practical, evidence‑based advice, working closely with building, fire, and safety systems, and translating technical information into clear, effective processes that genuinely reduce risk and improve outcomes.
About the Job
The role is focused on safety risk assurance, ensuring that systems and programmes designed to protect people, property, and reputation are robust, fit for purpose, and compliant with legislative and organisational requirements.
A typical day may include activities such as:
Providing operational H&S advice and support to managers and staff across hospital and radiology environments
Supporting and participating in incident investigations, audits, and inspections, including documenting findings and tracking corrective actions
Reviewing, testing, and reporting on fire safety and building safety systems, including evacuation processes and assurance documentation
Working closely with Facilities and external service providers to identify gaps in controls and support continuous improvement
Contributing to the development, review, and implementation of H&S policies, procedures, and guidance material
Assisting with staff orientation and Health & Safety Representative and manager training
Analysing safety data and producing reports to monitor trends, system effectiveness, and areas for improvement
Maintaining accurate H&S records, registers, and information resources
About you
You’ll be practical, confident, and collaborative, with the ability to engage across operational, facilities, and clinical environments. You enjoy understanding how systems work in practice and are comfortable reviewing processes, testing controls, and reporting on risks and gaps.
As our ideal candidate, you’ll also bring:
A recognised qualification in Health & Safety (e.g. NEBOSH Certificate / International General Certificate or equivalent)
Experience in a Health & Safety advisory role, ideally within healthcare, facilities management, or a complex operational environment
Experience working alongside facilities teams, contractors, or building safety systems (e.g. fire alarms, evacuation processes, safety equipment)
Confidence in incident investigation, audit activity, and corrective action follow‑up
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information into user‑friendly guidance or training
Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills, particularly MS Excel
A full New Zealand driver licence
