We are looking for an Insights Analyst to turn data, dashboards and research into clear answers that guide decisions across our organisation, our Board, Council, iwi partners and the wider region.
RotoruaNZ is the Economic Development Agency and Regional Tourism Organisation for the Rotorua district. We work in partnership with iwi, business, local government and community to grow the regional economy and strengthen Rotorua’s reputation. Rotorua Lakes Council has recently transferred its events and venue functions (the Energy Events Centre and Sir Howard Morrison Centre) to RotoruaNZ, so there is plenty happening and plenty to measure.
The role sits in the Strategy and Investment team, reports to the Head of Strategy and Investment, and is based at the i-SITE in central Rotorua.
What you’ll do
- Turn our data, dashboards and reports into clear findings that inform decisions.
•
Deliver a regular cycle of insights reporting (monthly, quarterly and annual) to deadline.
•
Dig deeper into existing and new data to answer specific questions from the executive, Board, Council and partners.
•
Design, field and analyse in-house surveys, including net-score and trend measures, and write up what they tell us.
•
Use AI tools (Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT and similar) to work faster and lift the quality of the analysis.
•
Contribute to briefings, board papers, council reports and presentations, and present findings to senior leaders and governance groups.
•
Scan the wider environment for emerging trends, opportunities and risks worth flagging.
What you’ll bring
- A tertiary qualification with a quantitative component (economics, statistics, data science, business analytics, social sciences or a related field).
•
Genuine numerical fluency and confidence interpreting and analysing data in Excel.
•
Working familiarity with generative AI tools and a real interest in applying them to actual problems.
•
Strong written and verbal communication, with the knack of explaining findings to non-technical audiences.
•
A curious, structured mindset and an eye for detail.
Nice to have
- One to three years in an analytics, research, insights or economics role. An outstanding recent graduate will be considered on merit.
•
Exposure to survey design and to qualitative or quantitative research methods.
•
Experience with data visualisation or analysis tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio, SQL, Python or R).
•
An understanding of the Rotorua region and the ability to work respectfully with iwi and community partners.
Why RotoruaNZ
- Work that has a direct line to the region’s future.
•
A team that backs new tools and new thinking, with AI built into how we work.
•
Real variety, from visitor and economic data through to sector and investment work.
•
The lifestyle of Rotorua and the Bay of Plenty on your doorstep
If you like turning data into decisions and want to help shape where Rotorua goes next, we would love to hear from you.
