Anesthesiologist — Job Description

Position summary

Deliver perioperative anesthesia care including preoperative assessment, intraoperative anesthesia management, postoperative pain control, and acute/resuscitative care; collaborate with surgical teams to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct preoperative evaluations, assess comorbidities and anesthetic risk, obtain informed consent, and formulate anesthetic plans.
• Provide general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care (MAC) using appropriate agents, airway management, invasive monitoring, and hemodynamic support.
• Perform airway management procedures (endotracheal intubation, LMA placement, fiberoptic intubation) and advanced resuscitation as needed.
• Place and manage regional/neuraxial blocks (spinal, epidural, peripheral nerve blocks) and coordinate with perioperative teams for multimodal analgesia.
• Manage intraoperative physiologic derangements, transfusion decisions, and critical events (anaphylaxis, hemorrhage, malignant hyperthermia).
• Provide postoperative anesthesia care including PACU management, acute pain service, and transition to inpatient pain control or outpatient analgesia.
• Participate in perioperative optimization programs (enhanced recovery after surgery — ERAS), pre‑habilitation, and risk-reduction strategies.
• Order and interpret perioperative labs, imaging, and point-of-care testing; titrate vasoactive and sedative medications.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of anesthesia records, consent, procedural notes, and pain plans.
• Supervise CRNAs and anesthesia residents/trainees where applicable; provide education and mentorship.
• Ensure compliance with institutional policies, national guidelines, and regulatory requirements (including controlled substance handling).
• Participate in quality improvement, morbidity and mortality review, simulation training, and departmental committees.

Required qualifications

• MD or DO degree.
• Completed accredited anesthesiology residency and board certification or board-eligible in anesthesiology.
• State medical license and DEA registration.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as required by practice.
• Proficiency in airway management, regional anesthesia techniques, perioperative medicine, and critical care principles.

Preferred qualifications

• Fellowship training/subspecialty certification (e.g., cardiac, pediatric, obstetric, pain medicine, critical care).
• Experience with ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS).
• Prior experience supervising trainees and advanced practice providers.
• Familiarity with ERAS protocols, perioperative echocardiography, and anesthetic information management systems.

Pay: $14,237.91 – $17,290.29 per month
