It was a trick question that tricked me. You're never going to code without a computer, yet they go through this drill to try and disqualify you. The entire interview process just felt like they're looking for reasons not to hire you. It didn't feel right at many stages but this is Charlotte and if you don't want to work at a bank or advertising, this company is one of the few options. The engineering team has high turnover, and this interview question was a good indication of their practices. It seems the code base is random and poorly organized, so they need engineers who can write code from memorization instead of using latest or best practices. It seems like the role is going to be mostly patch work. If you look at the portfolio of the leaders who run this side of the company, you'll see where they're headed.
