How would you solve a problem between an employee and a client?

I look at the facts. I research the situation and learn how the incident transpired. If the employee is at fault I apologise on their behalf and give the client a discount in proportion to the incident. If the client is at fault I politely explain the situation so the client can see the perspective of the employee. Depending on the results of my research I either coach the employee or reassure them that they made the right decision.
