explained I am not interested in conflict, that I would be most likely to approach it by saying, "I have found a defect. Can you look at it and make sure I didn't overlook something?" if the developer comes back and says "it's working as expected" but I still think there's a defect, I would request they walk through it with me and show me what I'm doing wrong.
