What does a quant do in a bank or hedge fund? Is it the same work as a machine learning engineer?
Hi all. I have yrs of experience in finance, never fired. Took an opportunity presented to me by a recruiter that seemed. like a good career move and was terminated after six weeks for “performance“. I was still onboarding and did not yet have full access to all systems. There was no PIP. I was still in training. After 8 years and working for a regulator for 3 I am blindsided. Can anyone advise?
Am I showing my age? 😄 I interviewed a young candidate for a financial advisor position & explained that the first 3–5 years usually require long hours & a lot of networking to build a book of business. After the interview, he politely declined, saying he was looking for better work-life balance. It got me thinking: Has the definition of career success changed, or is “paying your dues” still an important part of building a successful career? I’d love to hear different perspectives. I’m only 45!

Meeting with HR this morning… Seriously??? Compliance/Ethics Question: Imagine you’re traveling on company business. Your employer purchases an economy ticket, but the airline upgrades you to first class at no additional cost because of your personal airline status or loyalty program. Another employee reports it to HR. Should the company care? Why or why not? Where do you think the appropriate boundaries are between legitimate compliance oversight and an employee’s personal benefits?
