Why do developers hate product managers, and how do you fix it as a product manager?
Fellow consultants — I have a shot at management but suspect a likeability gap is holding me back. I'm great one-on-one but struggle in group culture: I prefer owning projects solo, skip the lengthy "chew the fat" discussions, and have a hard time staying quiet when I see a better path. I notice senior leaders say less — I say more. How do you learn to play the game without losing yourself?
Are we in a DEI recession rn?
Would you take a $20k bump to work in person 5 days/week? (Remote Fridays in the summer) & there’s a chance the company will eventually go back to hybrid. you also get the flexibility on ur work hours so could do a 7am-3pm schedule to avoid traffic
Sourcing some crowd wisdom. I have an IPhone 12 Pro Max. The battery is shot and so been contemplating getting a new 17 pro max. But people are telling me to wait till September when the new iPhone is released. Should I wait? I have some overseas personal travel coming up and would like a better phone camera and reliable battery but is it worth getting a new phone right now? Thoughts?
$7500 mortgage on 12k take home, am I crazy?
They can often promise features and functionality on unrealistic timelines. If you involve them in that decision making process, it’s much smoother.
Most developers have no social abilities whatsoever so it’s not that they hat their PMs, it’s that they simply don’t know how to love
This one made me lol
Product Managers are how the rest of the world sees HR. Y’all just can’t change it
Wait, what? You must work in HR
Because most see themselves as the boss instead of a support function
Developers are usually not fond of any management, much less a clueless product manager. You need to work with your developers first before promising the world to end users.
Bc you’re not a good PM
Because you just talk all day long while they are in the trenches
My least favorite PM experiences are when I give an estimate and they just ask me to make it shorter. Like what?? Not reducing scope or changing the requirement just asking for it to take less time like I can turn on afterburners or something lol
Ask them to prioritize the features and cut the bottom of the list. Remove those from your estimate. if they say they’re all important then remind them that they all take time.
