The Job

At Fulton Hogan we take pride in our Health and Safety standards throughout New Zealand and Australia. Reporting to the Project Manager you will be responsible for developing, leading and providing the Health, Safety and Environmental aspects of a large infrastructure project, focusing on operational safety performance.

The Waimea Community Dam is located in the Tasman District south of Nelson within the Lee Valley. This is the largest dam built in New Zealand for over 20 years and a very unique engineering challenge. The construction of the dam involves large scale earthworks including drill and blast, diversion works within a live river environment, extensive structural concrete works supported by an onsite concrete batch plant and mechanical/electrical works.

Fulton Hogan will deliver this project in a Joint Venture with Taylors Contracting, who are a local earthworks contractor and with whom Fulton Hogan has a long standing relationship.

Our Client is Waimea Water Limited a council controlled organisation with Tasman District Council and Waimea Irrigators as partners.

Key Accountabilities will include:
Pro-actively leading and mentoring employees in health, safety and environmental aspects
Providing health, safety and environmental guidance and direction to the project team
Site inspections
Auditing and reporting
Incident investigation and reporting
Overseeing Training and Environmental Monitoring
Identifying and managing health, safety and environmental risks
Coordinating health, safety and environmental resources to meet business needs
Monitoring and delivering proactively our obligations in full compliance with the Resource Consent Conditions
Helping to deliver our objective of a 50% reduction in injury severity by 2025

The Candidate

You will champion health, safety and environmental matters and contribute positively to our safety culture. You will have spent at least the last 5 years perfecting your craft in a HSE role and pose exceptional communication and presentation skills. Experience operating in the heavy civil, water, earthworks and concrete construction environment will be highly valued.

Your positive, approachable and friendly nature will help ensure your success within this role. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the project’s safety and environmental performance, working closely with people at all levels within the project.
