Together we are safer. Safety is one of our core values. We’re committed to a ‘zero harm’ environment and we act consciously every day to protect the safety and health of our employees, our contractors, visitors to our sites and the community.
About our team Barrett Burston Malting (BBM) has its origins in the various families of Burston, Hood, Smith and Barrett, pioneers who established the malting industry in Australia in the 1860's. Our head office and primary malting operations are located in Victoria – home to some of Australia's finest malting barley crops. Today, with operations expanded to Western Australia, Queensland and New Zealand, we combine tradition and experience with innovation.
About the role We’re seeking an experienced, self-starter in the role of National Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Business Partner. Reporting to the Director, Global Compliance & CSR (based in the US) and with a matrix reporting relationship to the General Manager of BBM, we’ll look to you to provide sound, pragmatic safety leadership and advice on all matters touching our ANZ operations (WA, VIC, QLD and Auckland).
Specifically, you will:
Provide teams with coaching, mentoring and SHE technical support to prevent incidents and injuries
Partner with and coach leaders and teams to understand and effectively apply SHE systems
Support the implementation and maintenance of external SHE certifications
Challenge non-compliance issues and escalate if required to ensure these issues are resolved according to legislative SHE standards
Provide advice and assistance to ensure the thorough investigation of incidents and the appropriateness of corrective actions to prevent a recurrence and eliminate or otherwise minimise risk
Provide professional advice to management to assist with SHE communication and reporting to employees and external parties such as customers, contractors and authorities
Develop robust policies, procedures and measurements to ensure compliance with legislation.
About your experience Our ideal candidate has recognised qualifications / formal training in WHS and sound experience operating in an autonomous safety management position within a similar business environment (ideally FMCG manufacturing or supply chain).
You should have an excellent working knowledge of Australian WHS legislation. Proven incident investigation experience following an accepted methodology and experience in audit and corrective action planning is required. Knowledge and applied understanding of HACCP principles will be highly valued.
You’ll be willing and able to undertake travel to sites within Australia and to New Zealand.
Finally, and most importantly, you will have outstanding communication, influencing, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
In addition to providing proof of working rights and suitable professional referees, preferred candidates will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical and criminal history check. A current, valid driver’s licence is also required.
Together we realise our potential. At BBM, we value and respect the different perspectives and experiences our people bring to work each day. We aim to increase the diversity of our workforce – leading to a range of different thinking, perspectives and ideas that create the innovation we need to drive better business results. We aim to have a work environment where everyone feels included and everyone can realise their full potential.
