About The Role

Based at our Newmarket support office and reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for driving Metlifecare's safety culture within the Property & Development portfolio, in particular around Contractor Management and Engagement.

Metlifecare has a zero harm aspiration and the Health and Safety Specialist will provide support to business leaders and the Property & Development team to ensure health and safety responsibilities are met or exceeded both internally and externally.

This role is also responsible for supporting the Health and Safety Manager to ensure the business complies with relevant internal and external policies and practices and providing advice, guidance and coaching to business leaders so they can minimise or eliminate safety risks as they relate to construction, refurbishment, long-term maintenance and day to day maintenance activities at our Villages.

Within this context, the Health & Safety Specialist will be expected to keep abreast of best practice and relevant internal policies; make recommendations that support Metlifecare's business strategy; and implement plans and initiatives that meet expected health and safety outcomes. The job is a mix of administrative and operational activity, working alongside the Health and Safety Manager and other business leaders, to drive a safety and wellbeing culture.

On offer is a permanent, part time opportunity working 20 hours per week. Whilst based at our Newmarket Support Office some travel may be required (including out of Auckland).

Skills & Experience Required

Holds or working towards completing NZ Diploma in OHS.
Relevant experience in the construction sector.
Relevant workplace experience in Health and Safety - preferred minimum of 5 years
Safety Auditing and Audit Management
Hazard Identification and Controls
Contractor Management Experience
Auditing Experience in Health and Safety and management of reports and to close out.
