I have been working at University of Michigan full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The pay and benefits are really good for a PhD (relatively). You can live comfortably on the salary in the area and the health insurance is amazing.

    Cons

Graduate students are worked hard either in research and/or teaching. The administration can be very tone deaf as well

I have been working at University of Michigan full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Relatively generous stipend $0 premium for good quality health care Many opportunities for additional support through internal grants, etc.

    Cons

Obviously, nobody is getting rich here and more support would be appreciated considering the load that graduate students bear in terms of research and teaching (if a GSI), but relative to other schools it is quite generous.
